A Clearer, More Accessible Mobile Menu
If you've used Brandmine on your phone, you've tapped the five icons along the bottom. We just fixed two things about that menu: it's now obvious at a glance which section you're currently viewing, and every color on it meets WCAG accessibility contrast standards — verified in both light mode and dark mode.
Open Brandmine on your phone and you’ll see five icons running along the bottom: Brands, Founders, Dimensions, Insights, and Intelligence. That menu just got two real improvements.
You couldn’t always tell where you were
The menu is supposed to show you which section you’re currently viewing. Before this update, it barely did. The only difference between the active tab and the rest was a slightly bolder label and a marginally thicker icon outline — both in white, both on the same teal background. At the small text size a phone menu needs, that difference was too subtle to notice at a glance.

We fixed this by giving the active tab a visible background pill — a simple, immediate signal that doesn’t depend on noticing small text changes. Now you can tell where you are without thinking about it.
Making the Intelligence tab accessible, not just orange
Intelligence — our commercial reports section — has always stood out with an orange accent, since it’s a different kind of destination from the free content around it. But once every tab could show a background pill for “you are here,” Intelligence’s permanent orange chip started sitting awkwardly next to another tab’s new active pill, and reading as if two things were switched on at once.
We also checked something we hadn’t checked closely before: whether orange text or icons directly on our teal background actually meet accessibility contrast standards. They don’t — nowhere close. The WCAG AA standard requires a 4.5:1 contrast ratio for text; orange on our teal measured 1.79:1. That’s a real accessibility gap, not just an aesthetic one — it would have been genuinely hard to read for anyone with low vision.
The fix: Intelligence now uses the same plain white icon and label as every other tab, plus a small permanent orange dot in the corner — a marker, not a wash of failing-contrast color. It’s unambiguous, it can’t be confused with the “active” pill, and it passes accessibility standards cleanly.
Built for both themes
None of this is new-in-dark-mode — the bottom menu already adapts to your device’s dark mode setting — but every color in this update was checked in both light and dark before it shipped, not just the default. The active-tab pill and the Intelligence marker both hold their contrast either way.
It’s a small piece of the interface, but it’s one you touch every time you use Brandmine on a phone. Worth getting right.
